Authentic Anger
What is Authentic Anger? AKA Sacred Rage
Sacred rage, or authentic anger, is the subtle flame within us.
It is the hum that bubbles deep inside, giving life to our inner protector.
This energy protects our life force and supports life in both our inner and outer worlds. Authentic anger strengthens our capacity for self-advocacy, healthy boundaries, and self-protection.
Developing a felt sense of this energy allows us to experience sacred rage as something that nourishes and protects us, rather than something we fear or suppress.
Authentic anger is a quality of life-force energy that can support us in many ways — awakening courage, moving us out of freeze states, transforming anxiety, and supporting deep self-reclamation.
This understanding of anger is very different from the way many women have been conditioned to experience or interpret anger. As a culture, much of what we call “anger” is not actually anger at all.
Authentic anger is not:
Pain or angst
Powerlessness
Violence or cruelty
Anger is not a behaviour, and it is not an action we take.
Anger is a felt sense in the body.
Authentic anger protects what is sacred. It rises when boundaries are crossed and when truth is threatened. It is a sane and healthy response to oppression, dehumanization, and the loss of dignity and rights.
Calmness, neutrality, or forgiveness are not inherently more spiritual than anger. They are not proof of healing.
Anger can be spiritual.
Anger can be medicine.
Authentic anger — sacred rage — is open, powerful, and rooted. It is an energy we receive and work with, rather than something that overwhelms or victimises us.
When we reconnect with authentic anger, we reconnect with our life force. We begin to reclaim our instincts and trust our primal knowing in the unfolding moments of life — capacities that cultural and patriarchal conditioning have often taught women to suppress.
Sacred rage invites us back into relationship with this inner power.
